In a display of magnificence, splendour and grandeur, Fijians in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces from 39 Engineer Regiment (Kinloss), 3 Scots Black Watch Regiment (Inverness), and The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Leuchars), their family and friends gathered in Kinloss on 17 October at the Corpals Mess in Kinloss Barracks to celebrate Fiji Independence Day to commemorate the signing of the Deed of Cession in 1874 to the United Kingdom and the attainment of independence 49 years ago on 10 October 1970.

Maraia Tabuvuya, an army wife and a Fijian speaking about the event says the celebration was moved from 10th October, the official Fiji date to 17th October because of busy schedules in other to make room for everyone to attend.

The event was graced by 3 Commanding Officers from the 3 Regiments in Kinloss, the host of this year’s event, Inverness and Leuchars, as well as Officers from several Squadrons across the Regiments.
