King Trump and The Paris Climate Accord

Merely looking at this picture, everyone in it seem to have one thing in common, they are all looking into the sky, thrilled by the military display at the G7 summit. Ironically there’s in hardly anything in common amongst these world leaders. From left to right is newly elected French president Emmanuel Macron, next to him is Donald Trump who needs no introduction, following him is another Donald, the European Council President Donald Tusk, followed by the British Prime Minister Theresa May then The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker. Looking at the smiles on their faces you could be deceived these are all friends no foes but take a look at their body language and it won’t take much difficulty discerning the pretence and power struggle. Donald Trump is like a King amongst them, who loves to be worshiped and bowed to, he is threatening to pull out from the Paris Accord that his predecessor put pen to paper to, not surprisingly though because it’s been one of the highlights of his campaign and he has never hidden his unbelief of the concept behind climate change. He is a nationalist who wants to put his country first albeit for the wrong reasons, in contrast, both the president of the European Commission and European Council are antagonist of Nationalism, hence have vowed to fight tooth and nail to ensure The UK is not better off outside the Union which the lady standing close to them, The British PM has is determined to make success of.

Donald Trump’s brave derelict of the world order is condemnable as well as commendable. This is because for the first time, or atleast in modern society, someone is standing up against a few people who empowered them self to dictate to the rest of us, albeit for the right reasons. The world has no doubt been changing before now but this sort of change is unprecedented and I think it would only get interesting from here on as we continue to see world leaders tussle power amongst themselves, who will blink first?

Moray Council Councillor resigns after a week of being elected

Sandy Cooper apologised for letting the electorate down. Pic: Moray Council/BBC

His election victory was barely a week when he decided to put pen to paper and tender his resignation. 72 year old Sandy Cooper was one of the three elected members representing Elgin North. He has now been criticised for the cost implications for taxpayers as it is believed a by-election would cost around £25,000.

The letter said he had taken the decision after “careful consideration” and apologised for the inconvenience and cost implications. A by-election will take place at a date yet to be decided. During his campaign for the office, Mr Cooper promised £1,000 of his annual authority salary to each of five schools in his ward if elected but it appears that’s a promise he would now have to break. Mr Cooper was accused of lying to the electorate about not being a member of a political party but he had stood for elections on the platform of the Conservative party in the 90s.
