Air Peace CEO charged with bank fraud in United States

US media outlets are reporting that the founder of Air Peace airline in Nigeria has been charged with bank fraud and money laundering for allegedly moving more than $20 million from foreign sources through American bank accounts and using it, in part, to pay for living expenses, luxury cars and high-end shopping, according to US officials and federal court documents.

According to Cable Network News, Allen Onyema, 56, the chairman and founder of Air Peace, is accused of moving the money from Nigeria and other sources through US bank accounts in a scheme that involved organizations he founded in Nigeria and false documents related to the purchase of airplanes, the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia announced Friday. 

“Onyema allegedly leveraged his status as a prominent business leader and airline executive while using falsified documents to commit fraud,” US Attorney Byung Pak said in a news release. “We will diligently protect the integrity (of) our banking system from being corrupted by criminals, even when they disguise themselves in a cloak of international business.”

Elgin Police on parking ticket spree

A police Constable has been out patrolling in Elgin town centre, issuing parking tickets to parking offenders who park on yellow line, restricted parking area, parking without paying parking fees etc. Constable MacKay seen cycling here covered a total of 7 miles. It is expected that this would be a continuous enforcement, this came on the backdrop of parking issues reported by local residents. If you are shopping in the City Centre area especially now that everyone is shopping ahead for Christmas, you might want to be cautious of where you park or overstaying your parking time so your Christmas budget isn’t depleted. ???

Spynie Care Home faces deregistration

Spynie care home in Elgin has run into crisis again with the Care Inspectorate after being told to make improvements, the care homehave been given an ultimatum to turn around six care delivery failings at the home by 10th January or have its registration withdrawn.

Concerns have been raised in six areas, including the health, safety and well-being of residents. The notice said residents must receive “high quality care”

The formal improvement notice served by The Care Inspectorate on the Spynie Care Home became imperative following an inspection which raised serious concerns.

Surfer dies in Isle of Lewis Beach

A man who was surfing in the Isle of Lewis Beach has met his untimely death after getting into difficulty. Coast guard pulled him from the sea at Barvas and emergency services were alerted at about 11:44. Police said the man was flown to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway where he was pronounced dead. investigations are still ongoing to determine the circumstances of the ill fated surfing.

Woman’s body found in Moray river

The body of  61 years old Jacqueline Ullmer, has been found in River Spey at Garmouth near Fochabers. She was declared missing two months ago.

Det Insp Donnie Macdonald said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jacqueline and we are supporting them through this difficult time.

“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all those who have assisted us in this extensive inquiry.” Mountain rescuers, a coastguard helicopter and police divers were involved in the effort to find her. Extensive searches were made of woodland and the River Spey at Carrbridge.

Explosives found in Keith waste disposal centre

Staff of the Keith waste disposal centre have been praised for “averting a potential tragedy” after they found a package containing 60 explosive detonators. As a result of the discovery, they helped to avert tragedy which could potentially claim lives of other workers further down the processing line in the landfill. The police were called to the scene and bomb disposal experts later carried out a controlled explosion. The recycling centre was closed off to the public after the devices were uncovered. There is no information as to who left the boxes for recycling, but the contents were described as being “of some vintage” and are likely to have been left over from nearby quarrying sites.

Time and time again the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon has not hidden her desire to request for another Independence referendum from Westminster, and time and time again No 10 has ruled out another Independence referendum in Scotland. Unless the First Minister backs down, her only option would probably to force one against the consent of the British Prime Minister, the move is likely to be ruled unlawful by the courts. Could the First Minister and her cohorts face prison term like the Catalonian leaders if she goes down that route? Only time will tell. Aker solutions have put 95 jobs under threat with no prior warning given. All jobs are expected to be onshore jobs. The cuts are been made to the two sights in Aberdeen, the company says the review is due to a change in product manufacturing demand in Aberdeen.
